Quickstart Guide to AA in LW11
LightWave 11 includes some major changes to antialiasing and quality settings. This video is designed to get you up to speed quickly with a brief comparison with LW9.6 and a quick overview of the settings in LW11.
I know these new settings have causes some confusion among LightWave users but hopefully this will get you started. If you want to delve deeper into the subject, I included links to two longer, more thorough videos at the end of mine.
There are a few things I should’ve mentioned in the video that I forgot.
- Some LW9/10 settings, like Light Quality, do not translate directly to LW11 because LW11 shows the exact number of samples, while earlier version of LW did not.
- Surface and Light Samples are multiplied by the Camera Samples.
- If you want to use Adaptive Sampling, your Maximum Samples need to be higher than your Minimum Samples, otherwise it’ll have no effect.
- If you have more than one camera in a scene, when you turn AS on or off for one camera, the AS setting on all the other cameras will change as well. If you don’t want AS on one of the others cameras, set the Maximum Samples to be lower than that camera’s Minimum Samples.
