Iron Sky – Day 17.5

Well, back in the office again. Luke and I are doing final touches and trying to accommodate everyone’s input on one of the capital ships. It’s not easy going but we are getting there. Everything goes into render tonight thankfully as we can swap out textures and re-render or render certain elements as matte objects and get it done. My only major concern right now is that its at least 38degress C in here and we have only half of the dedicated render farm system on at the moment. TheRead More
Iron Sky – Day 17

I just sent Luke home after he had pulled about 18 hours straight. I am here doing some last minute tests before heading home myself. All we have left to do for our next batch of renders is do some object swap outs, tripple check everything for placement, light the scene for key, fill, bounce (no big deal – I can do that in my sleep and probably will have to) , set up the break out scenes and throw it on the farm. I hope the power holds forRead More
Iron Sky – Day 16.

One thing I have learned about working in mixed pipelines over the last 5 years is to NEVER let an artist who works in the “other package” to leave the establishment until all things they were supposed to do for you after pointing them out and asking for things to be done on time every time and exacting to your specifications. If they manage to sneak out, you may find that its faster for you to rebuild the thingy in LightWave the way you want it and need it thanRead More
Iron Sky – Day 13

It’s been a very busy week and finally its drawing to a close. We completely blew the power here on Thursday (a holiday no less so so much for getting a repair guy in to fix it until the next day) so that set us back two days after Friday was “”Sauna Day”. I’m not even going to get into the details of that. Weird and wacky event to say the least. Let’s just say Maya artists can’t hold their liquor, but they let it all hang out either way.Read More
Iron Sky Day 9

It’s really hot here today in Tampere but thankfully now that its “night time” more or less its cooling off. Luke and I get to move into the new place today (we hope) but we are still working while the rest of the crew (the maya people who only do 8 hour days for some reason, deadlines or not – maybe its a European thing) are gone. Which for us is great because its nice and quiet and we can just work and be happy. The farm is humming awayRead More
Iron Sky Day 7

Well I have been here now for one full week with Luke Whitehorn and so far things are moving very nicely. The storyboard we have been given are pretty much previs’ed and outside of director approvals and commentary – are good to go to final shot stage. That’s where the real fun begins. Right now Luke and I are dealing with any of the smaller details that may have been missed in the builds up to this point and putting on finishing touches, lighting, VFX bits and efficient loading forRead More
Iron Sky – Day 6

(Updates are at the bottom) Hello! From Finland (Tampere to be exact). As many of you may know, Luke Whitehorn and I are currently in Finland helping out as VFX humans (and feline) with the feature film VFX of Iron Sky. We are still settling in but over the course of the next few days we will be doing some updates and blogging here on Liberty3d.com and in the forums of our site. You can also check out the new director diaries from www.ironsky.net I wasn’t present during the lastRead More
The Power of One.

Alan Elder who is VFXAUS over at the BattlestarVFX.com boards has come up with a very special treat for us this weekend. After a lot of hard work and effort and rendering he has delivered on an AWESOME, BSG inspired video. You can check out the forum posting at http://battlestarvfx.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=171&p=1553#p1553 But more importantly here is the video link at YT. http://youtu.be/T0GI2GHgwBI
News of the week. :)

Hey there everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that our forums are back to normal functionality. Properly registered users who may have been encountering “banned” messages should be able to access our forums without any troubles now. Now a couple of things. It may seem like we have gone “quiet” for the last couple of months but there are a lot of things going on behind the scenes here at Liberty3d.com. We have some new videos already up for you on various subjects covering 3D-Coat and more comingRead More
Please stand by…
In our efforts to try and keep as much russian/chinese proxy spam off our forums we have temporarily had to pull the plug on all IPs from those areas that we could. This however has caused our server some confusion and may be affecting IPs from valid Liberty3D.com fans and users. We are working to correct this and hope to have a solution very quickly. Please stand by and be patient while we get this sorted out. We are sorry for any troubles this may cause at this time. KeepRead More
Rebel Hill releases RHiggit for LightWave3D

Rebelhill is someone in the LW community that needs very little introduction. A top-notch industry veteran character animator and excellent LightWave3D instructor, we all know him well, but he’s always got something cooking that blows minds. This past week he has released a complete set of rigging tools for LightWave3D that continue to bring huge amounts of power to LightWave for Character Animators. With all this talk of “Messiah” as of late, which is fine – I think its cool (messiah that is) its really nice to see someone usingRead More
So you think Stereo3D is a fad? Guess again.

For those of you who are still having doubts about Stereoscopic 3D and its longevity you need to pull your head out of your Apple product for more than 30 seconds and look around.
HTC, a company whose products I have used and currently have an HTC Tytn II Phone from several years ago now (and its still working really good all things considered) has now fully released it’s debut 3D phone. I present to you the HTC Evo 3D!
Crazy Awesome LW tools from Japan!

I have absolutely no idea what this website says, but the demo videos of some of the stuff this guy is coming up with are awesome. Crazy deformers, real-time celshading views in LightWave’s viewport and all kinds of other stuff. One tool to look for is “Mesh Sketch”. Watch the demo videos for it and then check out his site. http://www.3dcel.jp/index.html

New Videos now available!

We have been hard at work this week producing new videos for you and you can now start to enjoy some of them. First up is a new video in Adam Gibson’s series on zBrush.
